Graphing Calculators

High school students and parents are often confused about which graphing calculator to buy. The most important thing you can do is to ask your teacher. If the teacher leaves it up to the individual, though, you'll have to do some homework. It's a good idea to read over the features of three popular graphing calculators to determine which one is right for you.

1. TI-83 Plus Graphing Calculator

The TI-83 Plusc may be the right choice for students who do not pursue a diploma that contains a strong math and science curriculum, or for students who are willing to buy a second calculator at some point during high school or college. This calculator is sufficient for Pre-algebra, Algebra I and Algebra II, Trigonometry, and Statistics. It should also suffice for basic Biology and Physical Science. The TI-83 Plus is allowed on the SAT and ACT tests.

2. TI-84 Plus Graphing Calculator

The TI-84 Plusc is a great calculator for all the courses mentioned in the TI-83 segment, but this calculator has more memory and is recommended for students who are taking geometry. Remember to ask your teacher which product is required before making a final decision! You may use the TI-84 during the SAT and ACT.

3. TI 84-Plus Silver Edition

The TI 84-Plus Silver Editionc comes with many bells and whistles, so if you are willing to pay the price for those extras, this model might be a good choice for you.
