Ruffle Reading

When you read a book for an assignment, you will want to remember lots of details. If you're reading for a book report, for example, you'll need to locate certain quotes or important details. For this, I recommend ruffle reading.

Highlighting is not the best way to go about marking a book page, because it's messy and it's not allowed in some cases. Instead, you should keep a pack of sticky flags on hand when you read. Read your book and place a sticky flag on the edge of the page any time you come across a phrase that is remotely interesting. You might even use two or three different colors of flags: one for quotes and one for essential facts, for example.

By the time you finish the first reading of your book, you should have so many flags sticking out of the pages that the book is ruffled by flags. Instead of reading the entire book again to relocate the most critical details, you can skip from one flag to the next and quickly find those points you marked.

And with ruffle reading, you don't end up with lots of unsightly highlights!
